Getting Ready for Summer Camp 2009

Getting Ready for Summer Camp 2009

This has always been a busy time of year for Scouting activities. It seems that every weekend has activities for the Scouts - a 20 mile hike, Mt. Lafayette, the PawSox weekend, OA Conclave, OA Ordeal, our Beaver Day campout at Chesterfield and JLT. There are so many activities available for the boys to participate in. I hope to see all of you at these events.

It’s hard to believe that Summer Camp is just 2 months away. As the Chairman of the Council Camping Committee, I know this year’s program will be one of the best in years! There will be some new faces on staff and some familiar faces - yes, Mr. Zissell is back again this year. There are a few additional merit badges being offered this summer, but all the favorites are still there (no partials!!). Scouts who are not yet First Class will be attending a new and improved Brownsea program (I think they’re changing the name).

This year, the Troop will be moving Camp 57 from Rifle Ridge to Frontier. Frontier is set-up a little better for a Troop our size. Mr. Desjardins, Mr. Lamontagne and I visited both sites this past weekend to see what the damage was from the ice storm. Rifle Ridge looks like a battlefield. There are many, many trees down and a lot of the tent platforms have been damaged. Frontier had some trees down, but not as bad as Rifle Ridge. Don’t worry, by the time camp begins, the site’s will be ready for us.

More information will be coming out shortly about merit badge sign-ups, the swim test and tent buddies. Don’t forget to schedule your physicals. The medical forms are available on our website.

That’s it for now,
